Upon reading the reviews from past visitors, we decided to go with Villa Sayang (as opposed to a hotel) for our Spring Break vacation. And while there were definite pluses to the stay, there were more negatives.
Gede greeted us when we arrived Sunday late afternoon, and couldn't have been more delightful! He was very friendly and welcoming and made certain we were settled in immediately.
The yard was beautiful - well maintained, with a gorgeous looking pool. However, the pool furniture/table was very rough looking (stained) which was off-putting straight away. Heading inside, I immediately noted a filthy kitchen towel on the kitchen counter - folded up next to the sink, as though it was a "fresh" towel just recently placed there (this item remained there, until I decided to move it to the floor, in hopes it would be changed for another newer/cleaner one). The kitchen itself was not appealing, and again, did not sit well for just having arrived. The living room furniture is also marked/stained and in serious need of care/recovering.
The 2 inter-connecting rooms upstairs were a good size. Unfortunately, as we slowly figured out, the 2nd of the two has an opening to the outside, which allowed a plethora of mosquitos in during the evenings (even though we used the bug spray provided, plus our own). The sheets (under the duvet) were marked/stained as were the pillows (both sleeping pillows and decorative ones).
The downstairs bedroom (attached, though not connected by a doorway) had a terribly mouldy smell to it. Nobody in our family volunteered to stay in that room - and I was really thankful we hadn't brought anyone else along with us, because that room is simply not useable.
No direct "fault" of the villa, but the main living space is not a/c'd and therefore gets very, very hot even with the use of the fans.
We enjoyed amazing breakfast every morning, care of Anna (first morning) and Novita (for remaining mornings). Both of these ladies should be commended for being outstanding staff members! Absolutely lovely women, extremely pleasant and wonderfully talented cooks! We also indulged in an "in villa" bbq (we chose the seafood option) and we LOVED it! The food was spectacular!!!
All in all, I can't rate the villa any more then 3 stars, although as mentioned above the location could not have been better! And the staff is simply one of the best group of people we've been lucky enough to have around us during a vacation. However, for the nightly price we paid, I wouldn't expect the abovementioned issues! The villa is in serious need of updating (coverings, towels, sheets, pillows). The attention to some details would move it up to 4 stars.
