The family has just returned from a 9 day stay at Pontoon House. This was a holiday that was originally booked in 2020 before Covid changed everything. Where do I start, I opened the door stood in the entrance hall and was overwhelmed. The house fulfilled everything that you could ask for . Well appointed spacious kitchen dining and lounge. Ample bedroom space. The garden is vast safe for children with amazing views. We held a sports day. The grandchildren went picking fresh blackberries most mornings for breakfast. We had fantastic weather which is a rarity in Ireland (first time I have ever had to buy aftersun) We had days out to Strandhill Co Sligo , Lough key Co Roscommon and a walk up Croagh Patrick. The views we had that day were breathtaking. The climb is not for the faint hearted but my 10 year old grandson Oliver spurred me on. Dillon's in Ballina is definitely worth a visit excellent food. It,s always busy so it's advisable to book. The chinese in Foxford is also very enjoyable and you should also pop into Guiry's for a Guinness. Pontoon House has made many new memories for us and we as a family wouldn't hesitate making a return trip. The house is great, a good size with an impressive garden. Kitchen is well equipped, rooms are a good size and there was plenty of room for the six of us. The location is rural and isolated, which means that on clear nights you can do some great dark skies star spotting. Both of the nearby hotels mentioned in the directions (Heelys and the Pontoon Bridge Hotel) are now closed, but its only a 15 minute drive into Castlebar which has plenty of great bars and restaurants and a couple of big supermarkets. Paddy, the owner, recommended some places to eat on the first night and Bar One in Castlebar was truly excellent food and a warm welcome. It was a great base to explore Mayo, would recommend Westport, Ceide Fields, Ballycroy and Achill. The beaches were all fab and we even managed some seal spotting in Clew Bay. Would definitely come again!

We have been regular visitors to Pontoon House since Paddy first started renting it out many years ago. It is in a beautiful rural location surrounded by gorgeous views of the Logh below. The house has recently been modernised now featuring 4 double beds and 1 twin which is perfect for a big family get together. The pool table upstairs is great for a bit of evening fun & games alongside the huge open plan living area downstairs for meals in, drinks & fun. Celebrated my 65th birthday here this year and Paddy was sure to leave me a bottle of wine in the fridge! As always he was helpful in the lead up to and throughout our stay. Car hire is a necessity to get to nearby towns such as Castlebar, Foxford and Ballina all approx 15-20 minutes away.

Just back from my second time staying at Pontoon House. Superb house in a stunning location. Best place to make great holiday memories with family and friends. Highly recommend Pontoon House.

We have been staying in this fabulous house with another close family group for many years. It has always provided us and our children and young adults with a perfect base for our holidays in Mayo. The house is in the townland of Bunduvowen and it captures breathtaking views of the mountains, lakes, bogs and everything the seasons have to throw at you. Whether we are looking for an activity holiday or a retreat we have always found it ideal. It has really good kitchen facilities for home cooking and family dining, a bright and spacious living area with plenty of seating, a raised fireplace, high ceilings and lots of windows with beautiful views. There are plenty of en-suites and a bathroom, which is good for a group. The area is great for walks and cycling. The house is close to Castlebar for shopping. Before we leave we are already planning our next trip down. We recommend this for a family group who are looking for the comforts of home and a beautiful quiet base for traveling and activities or for some quiet downtime.

We had booked this property after reading brilliant reviews posted prior and we were not disappointed. The property was home from home, equipped with everything families would need and more. The property was clean and well maintained, with Phillipe visiting to check on the pool and if we were happy and had everything we needed. Great communications with the landlord and throughout, we would highly recommend this property to anyone.

Pontoon House presents a perfect opportunity to get away from it all to the quiet Mayo countryside. This lovely house is very well presented, has a great layout and plenty of space, and is well equipped on all fronts. A wonderful garden for kids to play in, alongsid erabbits, birds and other wildlife. An added bonus is that you are not too far away from Castlebar, Ballina and Foxford for shopping and dining, with Westport and Newport not much further afield, so there is plenty to see and do. A trip to Downpatrick Head is well worth it for the stunning coastal views, and there are plenty of walking trails within a reasonable drive to keep walkers of all abilities happy. Pontoon House is an excellent base for a fantastic holiday.

I visited this beautiful place in oct/nov 2019 with 9 family members from 11ys to 83yrs. Booking and communication from the owners were great.. The views of rugged Mayo and Pontoon from the front of the house took our breath away.. although the setting is remote.. real life is only 10 mins away by car.the setting is idyllic. The house inside and out was high spec and beatiful.. there was everything we could possibly want or need.. We had the most amazing holiday and made special memories in a stunning house and setting.. we would not hesiate to return or to recommended to others..

Thank you Paddy for the use of Pontoon House... it was perfect for the four of us, modern, very comfortable and had all the mod cons... home from home. I only wish that the salmon had been so accommodating. I am sure we will be back to fish The Moy again and will have no hesitation in booking Pontoon House in the near future.

Our family recently traveled over to Foxford for a family wedding and had the privilege of staying at Pontoon House. The home was adequately appointed, with beautiful roomy living where everyone had their own space when needed. The lake was close by, with plenty of walking trails around the area and several villages were close by for all your catering needs. The host Paddy was fabulous and nothing was a bother. We will definitely be back one day!
