Beautiful place, wonderful host and gorgeous views
The location is lovely and the beautiful house is tucked into the mountains of the Alpujarra. Sue was an absolutely wonderful host. There are quaint little villages very close to visit as well as a winery and a gourmet restaurant known for its exquisite food cooked by a famous Chef. I highly recommend visiting.

Thoroughly absorbing and enjoyable Textile Holiday
I returned from this holiday feeling restored and inspired. The villa is lovely, set in the countryside, high in the mountains with the most amazing views. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts (including my gluten free diet), the food was delicious and the textile course well-planned, resourced and inspiring. I loved working in the studio looking out across the valley. The whole atmosphere was relaxing and fun.

Textile course
I attended a textile course in this beautiful and comfortable house with a truly wonderful view. Our hosts were wonderful and looked after us very well. The house is just lovely. I hope to go back very soon

Stunning location, great property, lovely hosts
I spent a week here on a textiles course, and had a fab time. Our hosts had thought of everything, and could not do enough to help us. This property is in a stunning location, wonderful views, with fig, olive and other trees around this extensive property. The plunge pool was very welcome at the end of the day. A short walk from the village, there is a great restaurant and a bar nearby. I wished that the wifi was more reliable. I believe that it was affected by the thunderstorm that we had one night. It was not working in our rooms.

A glorious property; superb location; inspirational views
We returned again to Mairena and Cortijo El Ejido in mid September 2017. This time for two weeks. Cortijo El Ejido is a cool and contemporary home balanced by traditional architecture. It is set in the mountains and overlooks terraced fields olive groves and almond trees. Cortijo El Ejido provided us with the perfect setting for yet another relaxing holiday. The weather was hot and the mountain breeze and plunge pool kept our temperature comfortable. We have spent time in Mairena in the Spring, Autumn and now the Summer. Visiting at different times of the year has enabled us to appreciate the wonderful landscapes that Mairena and the surrounding area have to offer. Truly inspirational to artists. The sunrises and sunsets were again magnificent. We walked in the mountains, visited the local vineyard, purchased and drank their wine and champagne and ate in the local restaurant in Mairena. The Alhambra Palace in Grenada is a must see. La Calahorra, just over the mountain, was such an unexpected pleasure that we visited again the second week with family. La Calahorra is open on wednesday but it's a bit of a winding trip so we'd advise you check opening times before you make the effort. For further comment please see our previous review because our views have not changed. Testament to the pleasure we gain from staying in Cortijo El Ejido is that we have returned and are planning our 2018 trip.

Fabulous mountain views.
This villa combines contemporary styling with a Spanish atmosphere and modern conveniences all set in a stunning location. I loved it and will be returning next year. Thank you.

Wonderful holiday, away from it all.
I had the loveliest holiday here, attending the textile course in August. The whole thing was so well organised, from being picked up at the airport to being taken to the Alhambra and being shown round a weaver's studio nearby. The course itself was really enjoyable, and I was able to learn printing techniques I hadn't tried before. We enjoyed the huge, panoramic views from the villa; especially in the peaceful evenings as the sun went down. The accommodation is very spacious and well thought - out, comfortable and airy on even the hottest day. Overall, a great holiday, and I would love to go again.

Fabulous views and great location to explore the Alpujarras region of Andalusia!
We stayed in Cortijo El Ejido in early September last year with a group of family and friends. The house was very well appointed and accommodated us all very easily with lots of space for the kids to play both inside and out. The house is in fact two self-contained apartments that are linked by an internal courtyard to the rear but does feel like one big house. The rooms are tastefully decorated with big comfy sofas in the lounge, two well equipped kitchens and two bathrooms. Outside there is a huge terrace with the most fantastic views of the Alpujarras. We sat and admired this view every day over breakfast, lunch and dinner. The terrace has a good range of garden furniture and plenty of shade from the sun. The little pool is great for cooling down and perfect for the children to play in as it isn’t too deep. We spent our days out on the terrace under the grapevine and having picnics in the olive groves surrounding the house. The owners provide a picnic basket! The coast is less than an hours drive away so we did a couple of day trips to the beach. The lovely city of Granada is apparently only 2 hours drive away but we didn’t get chance this time to visit. The little village of Mairena is a short 10 minute walk away and it is like stepping back in time with steep cobbled streets and houses covered in potted plants of all colours and varieties. There is lovely summer bar where you can have a drink and tapas sitting under the willow trees and an excellent restaurant in the main square. There is also a small shop for day to day provisions, although we tended to drive to Ugijar to the larger supermarket for our weekly shop. Here you will also find other shops, lots more restaurants and a great vineyard that will give you a tour if you give them a call beforehand. We did a couple of the local walks early in the morning as it was still very hot in September and there is a good walking map in the house. There are plenty of walks on the doorstep and my husband and I plan to return and hire just one of the apartments in the cooler months to do some more walking and to visit Granada.

Outstanding property; fabulous location; wonderful views.
We were so pleased to return to Mairena in October 2016. We had a very special time, a much needed rest and the pleasure of the changing seasonal colours and magnificent sunsets. The weather was fabulous over the week with temperatures up to 32 degrees. We have also spent time in Mairena in the Spring and this too is a magical time with the heavenly perfumes of orange blossom. The Alhambra Palace in Grenada is a must see. Sue and Mohni have chosen a most beautiful spot in the Sierra Nevada. Their home, Cortijo El Ejido, worked really well for us. We stayed in one of two apartments. Both equally comfortable and fully equipped for self catering with local shops nearby. The apartments are stylishly appointed with wonderful views all around but particularly enjoyed from the front facing rooms and balconies. The views of the mountains reaching out towards the sea are accompanied by magnificent sunrises and sunsets.  There is plenty to do for a balanced holiday. We walked in the mountains, visited the local vineyard and purchased champagne and red wine which we recommend, Tempranillo Privilegio 2009. We ate in the local restaurant in Mairena and visited the desert. Yet again we found that Mairena was a delicious place to spend whole days relaxing, reading and painting. We returned home restored and plan to return later this year with our extended family. We were welcomed on the first day and shown where to shop. It was very reassuring to have Sherry, a friend, as a local point of contact if needed.

Second time as good as the first time in this beautiful, peaceful location.
Another interesting course from an inspiring teacher who gave us so much support and humour! Thoughtful, caring hosts who put themselves out for us in so many ways. Excellent trips to local vineyard, mountain walks, local places to eat. Can't wait to go back again.
