Vi stannade på Kurland den 11 augusti.
På platsen ser strukturen vacker ut och som sådan har den sålts! Istället befann vi oss efter en lång resa från Kapstaden i ett kallrum (i Sydafrika är det vinter) med en gammal spis bara påslagen och en skorsten som inte räckte för att värm

Good Evening Isabella E Thank you for your review and comments regarding your stay at Kurland on August 11th. To avoid any further mis-information, I will respond to your comments as professionally as possible. Please also note that you booked a suite with a loft for your daughter, and prior to your arrival, because of our wonderful fire-places, we upgraded your daughter to her own suite - with her own fire-place, which was next door to your suite. 1. When you arrived at the Estate, your first complaint was that the estate was difficult to find - you were immediately irritated with my Manager on duty when she requested that your vehicle be parked correctly. Our usual Kurland welcome which included a 'manager' in service, was refused i.e. a welcome drink of choice including champagne in front of a roaring fire in order to relax, whilst we sorted out your luggage. 2. Madam, your complete disrespect for my Duty Manager was despicable - with a raised voice, finger in her face, and insinuating that although the hotel was charming, it was only fit for 'people' like her - not people like yourself who were from Italy and who pay a lot of money ?! 3. It was a chilly evening and we were fully aware of this - hence the extra heater in your bathroom with the fire burning in your suite 4. A log fire had been burning in your suite from 17h00 prior to your arrival at 19h00 5. You demanded extra heaters - which were provided - two oil heaters in the bathroom - a heated towel rail on full, and an oil heater on either side of the bed PLUS a roaring log fire - that's 4 large heaters! 6. You then pulled the bed apart and accused us of making up the bed with un-ironed sheets - you also took photographs of this. I think it is quite normal that when one pulls out linen that has been tucked tightly under a mattress, with the quality and luxury linen we use, it certainly creases where it is tucked in under the mattress ?! 7. You did not stop insulting my staff and my Duty Manager, both in the Manor House and back in your suite, who with respect, handled the situation calmly, professionally, with grace and in complete bewilderment. The room attendant even brought a steam iron to your suite, to iron the creases from under the mattress ? and you had the audacity to tell her to hurry up! All she was trying to do was rectify your unreasonable request. She was not sure what she was supposed to iron - but she did regardless. 8. You then threatened the staff and myself with lawyers. 9. I made contact with you and in a raised voice which could be heard in another room, you told me that your bed was not fit for a dog! You also insisted that the suite was not more than 7 degrees and if you had to sleep in clothes, and catch a fever, you would need to return to Italy and would not be able to go on Safari? 10. You also told me that you came from Italy and were not South African and should be treated like someone who comes from Italy and lives in the USA - that the hotel was only good enough for the 'people from here'? 11. When you decided to come through for dinner - my staff once again 'prepared a turn-down' and were shocked to see what you had done to the room. 12. Madam, what you possible are not aware of, is that we use a communication platform within the team called 'whatsapp' and every single suite pre-arrival / post turn-down is photographed - as was your suite. Our photographs one hour before your arrival by the Duty Manager and after turn-down whilst you were at dinner - are nothing in comparison to the photographs you took! 13. In your welcome letter and explained by the Duty Manager - the Spa block is undergoing a small refurbishment - however, we have therapists on call for en-suite treatments - but you decided to take photographs of a building that had been prepared for painting - the proof of that can be seen today - Monday - as today the painters started! 14. My annoyance madam, was my continual request of asking you to please stop pointing your finger in my Duty Manager's face and each time I put my hand up to protect her - you then stuck your finger in my face which I found completely unacceptable and I told you so. 15. When it came to paying for your dinner - you were most annoyed that this bill was needing to be settled and then exacerbated with your husband shouting at me in Italian that I, together with my staff should rather be apologising for such a 'low class' accommodation offering. 16. I confirmed at check-out that Kurland was not the correct fit for you, thereafter, you reminded me that you were an Architect, from Italy, that your lawyer is ready, due to us providing demanded 'extra' heating for you in the bathroom - of an inferior standard. In general, oil fin heaters are actually extremely reliable, safe and effective. 17. Stained Fabrics ? - entrance mat - that's what mats are used for - especially in wet weather - Old carpet - actually a new carpet - 4 Heaters and an open wood fire and behaviour such as this has not been experienced at Kurland. Yes, my staff were a little surprised, and yes so was I. As the General Manager of this beautiful property, I certainly will not tolerate any guest or person insulting and accusing my staff and our service or standards unfairly, especially with fingers pointed in their faces, most especially if they are carrying out their duties correctly and professionally. Criticism or constructive criticism is always welcome - rudeness and disrespect is not. As for the Kurland Team not being able to handle the situation - it was a little difficult, as we did not know what else to do for you madam. After discussions with the agents between Italy and South Africa into the late hours of the evening, no-one else knew either. We did wish you well on your onward journey, and trust that you do get to enjoy this beautiful South Africa and its people. Sincerely, DIANA HOWELL GENERAL MANAGER - KURLAND
