We stayed 3 nights at al Sour apartments which were very clean, quiet and a convenient 3 minute walk from the Fort and souk (a minutes walk past Nizwa Heritage Inn). Well equipped shared kitchen and outdoor eating area. Ali the owner was hugely helpful arranging a friend of his to take us on a Jebel Shams tour and organising bus tickets for us from Nizwa to Haima and from Haima to Salalah the next day on Mwasalat buses which we hadn’t organised from Muscat. Well recommended.
Al Sour House is located in the old town of Nizwa, quite near Nizwa Heritage Inn, and within a short walk of Nizwa Fort and some restaurants. It is possible to park a couple of cars opposite the house in the narrow street where the house is located or you could use one of the car parks just beyond the city walls. The house itself is very cozy and clean consisting of 4 apartment rooms. As the owner, Ali, is a pharmacist by trade, you should call him on your arrival and he will tell you who have room is yours. Inside the house in the lobby area, you will see two large settees leading to a number of rooms and a communal kitchen outside of which there is a large balcony with a large table and several chairs with a good view. If you have room 3, you will also be able to enjoy the view from your room. Our room was number 3 which was huge with one large double bed and one single bed for OMR23 per night. The floor was beautifully tiled and the furniture consisted of a round table with 3 chairs, a wardrobe and mirror, a clock on the wall, 2 wall-mounted paintings and a clock. There was also a bedside table with a lamp next to the large bed and two windows with Venetian blinds. The bathroom was also beautifully tiled with a shower whose temperature was sometimes difficult to regulate. The hot and cold water taps didn't mix well so that the water was sometimes either too hot or too cold. There was a good-sized water basin which was partially blocked as the water took ages to drain out. Toilet paper and bath gel were provided. There was a large kitchen with 2 cooking rings, microwave, drinking water dispenser, all the cutlery and crockery you could possibly need, a fridge and a kettle while you could use the balcony to eat any food you prepare where there is a table and chairs for doing so. The whole house is provided with aircon and fans and is spotlessly clean. There is also free WiFi that works very well and the owner is a young man who speaks English extremely well, having been educated in the UK. This was the best accommodation that I stayed in during my stay in Oman and would be happy to stay there again. Some work is needed in the bathroom to improve the washbasin and possibly the shower, but despite this, it is still worth 5 stars …
