This place is a bit of a mixed metaphor; it’s not a conventional hotel or an apartment building. There is only a daily rate and they wouldn’t quote a monthly or weekly price when I asked about a future longer stay. I saw a few other rooms and I would recommend one with a balcony for the extra space and fresh air. First the good: Itzik the manager (I think) is very nice and mostly helpful with some minor exceptions. He was very informativeabout the area, food, busses and miscellany. Liat, the night clerk was the best part of the place, helpful and congenial she was a pleasure to deal with for towels etc. The elevator is big enough for two if you have tiny luggage otherwise just one person but it works. My room was small but mostly serviceable. The fridge, microwave and all lights worked. The bed was okay with a very thin mattress and two pillows with a third in the small free standing cupboard. There was a small shower stall but not tiny and tons of hot water. There was a small bar of soap and a liquid soap bottle supplied. The TV was small but ok, clear and had lots of channels but I didn’t use them much beyond the news. Now the bad: -Often smoky, The manager smokes downstairs and the staircase acts as a chimney to the upper floors. -Often noisy overnight (someone tried my door and knocked at 3:30 AM) yelling on several nights. -Noisy main street so lots of horns at all hours. -Towels were once new I imagine but that was a long time ago and most are pretty thin and stained. -They don’t clean the room ever, the floor was pretty filthy -One gets new towels at the front desk and leaves them in the elevator area -They don’t change the sheets. When I first asked I was told every three days but apparently waiting for it to happen was a forlorn hope. I had to ask for clean sheets and change them myself (stayed 12 days) -The toilet seat was free floating, it was there but not attached but they almost fixed it and I had to be very careful because it moved from side to side. -The bathroom window was stuck partially open and they promised to fix it numerous times, I’ll check next year because there was no progress on this at all. It was the noise that it allowed in, not really the ventilation that bothered me. -There is no chair in the room, only a tiny stool -There’s no table either just a narrow shelf so there’s really no place to prepare food but the ancient hot plate, cutlery and dishes were not appealing. -There are no shelves for clothing storage other than below the hanging area in the small cupboard and there were only three or four mismatched twisted hangers. -There’s ni real place to stash tour suitcase(s). -There’s no night or secondary lock on the door. -The stairs would be the only fire exit so I’m not too sure about safety. -There are paint splatters all over the floor in the room as if someone’s child painted it and made no attempt to be neat. -Have to take out your garbage bags too. Summary: It’s enigmatic: neither a hotel really or an apartment building but a combo but nice people made up for a lot, it wasn’t expensive and it was in a great location near tons of restaurants, shops, the old port and groceries were very close by. You can see the Mediterranean from the upper floors but not the beach. …
