I have an electric scooter I don’t walk is Catalina handicapped friendly?
Sorry, I didn't see your question until today Arlene. There are a few people that live in town with mobility assistant devices. Some of Avalon narrow and steep streets do present issues for some people. We have been able to accommodate some limited mobility clients through the hotels secondary access. Either our manager or us as owners, need to speak with you directly to explain our limitations and what barriers we have been able to eliminate to see if we can fit your needs. There are a few hotels in town that are fully accessible for mobility access on the ground floor. I suggest looking at the Catalina Chamber for all properties in Avalon. The Catalina Island Inn has some newly remodeled first floor rooms, Catalina Canyon Hotel, a Holiday Inn property has accessible rooms, Pavilion Lodge, Hotel Metropole and Seaport Village Inn are a few others that I believe are good places to look and many of these have elevators. Again, we are happy to speak with you about our ability to accommodate your needs.
Arlen, some of the island is accessible. But not the Avalon Hotel. Far too many steps to get to front door. But there are hotels along the main front street that would be. Be sure to call and ask. You could also get to the Catalina Museum as long as your battery had a good charge to get up the inclined street. Most restaurants would be fine. I’m not sure about the Catalina Express boats. You should ask about that too.
