A garden full of inspiration
aug. 2021
This is a delightful garden packed full of inspirational ideas. At £5 entry its excellent value and well worth a visit. The plant sales are also great value. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

GREAT TO RETURN
juni 2021
The Covid Lockdown prevented my Wife and I from making our intended visit to the garden last year, so we made arrangements with Andrew Brogan, the owner, designer and gardener for a private visit before any other occurrence could prevent our return.

This was our fifth visit to the garden having been here in 2009, 2012, 2015, and 2018 following which we posted comprehensive Reviews, so I'll keep this reasonably brief.

The garden is impressive and inspirational with huge palms, bamboos and eucalyptus plus other exotics, several ponds and stream, interesting buildings and a "victorian" grotto, ironwork, various artefacts found on site during construction, and a boat.

We chatted to Andrew and acquired more of his excellent plants which thrive in our garden. Andrew's Echiums are superb and very reasonably priced.

Amazing place
juni 2021 • Familj
We visited mid week and were pleasantly surprised by what was behind the gates of this garden. We learned so much from our tour and can’t believe the family have done all this from scratch! A lovely afternoon out and a friendly, knowledgeable tour guide 😊

What a treat

What a lovely afternoon we had in Andrew's amazing garden when we can't go on holiday we could pretend for a couple of hours. We had arranged to come mid week and were joined with another family. I would never have imagined what lay beyond the gate. It really is magical if you love all things exotic or lived abroad and miss seeing it (like us!) Andrew was very knowledgeable and fun and has created a true oasis in the suffolk countryside. Some people have complained about paying £5 to visit! Yet these people are happy to pay that for a couple of fancy coffees. Get some perspective here, creating and maintaining a garden like this takes time and money. We will definitely be back probably on an open day just to repeat the relaxing afternoon we had. (and buy more plants!) Thank you Andrew and all your helpers and keep up the good work.

Pretty but small and expensive

This is a garden which costs £5 to go in and basically you can buy some plants or have a coffee whilst visiting. It’s pretty small - I expected more given the entry fee. Personally I think it would be better to visit a garden centre and spend the fiver buying yourself a plant. We did buy 2 ferns which were comparably priced and are growing well

A bit ramshackle but interesting

The gardens are very different for a village garden with a jungle feel. It is pretty small so probably an hour to visit absolute maximum. It’s quite rustic (with plant pots, slightly makeshift polytunnels) etc and definitely more akin to how you’d have your own garden than a formal set up.

There were lots of plants, presumably for sale, but no prices on anything. I might well have purchased some if there had been.

The jungle feel of the garden is lovely and the bamboos spectacular but it lacked something for me. There could have been more colour and planting and it was a bit too amateur and small for the fiver entrance fee. Perhaps some exhibits on how they propagate or in specific plants in the empty tea house The kids did like exploring though and the refreshments were delicious.

A very different experience!

The gardens are probably not like any were you have been. A tranquil tropical garden set in the small village of Henstead. Andrew is a very amiable host who is very knowledgable and friendly. We went just before it reopened properly but nevertheless had a lovely time walking round, there is a small cafe set in the garden where you can just sit and enjoy. Also a beautiful wooden garden room hand built and full of character.
We brought some plants, which we are looking forward to planting when we return home.well worth a visit if you want to see something out of the ordinary. We took the dog which was not a problem. So don’t miss out on this little gem!

Jungle like bamboos
sep. 2019
Small garden/nursery with exotic plants and tea and cakes availalable in the garden. Rather quirky layout. You need to ask for information about plants as there is not much signage. Rather difficult to access with a childs buggy or a wheelchair.

Worth visiting for a jungly experience
aug. 2019
Henstead Exotic Garden is is a little piece of paradise nestling in a Suffolk village. Who would have thought a jungle could be created in the UK?

From lush tree ferns to towering bamboo, leafy banana plants and other foliar delights, this garden is truly inspiration and a tranquil place to visit.
For the very reasonable admission price of £4, there's nothing to complain about! I seen another reviewer say that there were bits of junk lying around, well I suppose each to their own, but I happen to like some quirkiness and think it adds a certain charm to place.

There is also a plant nursery/shop and a small cafe.

DON'T GET LOST IN THE JUNGLE
juli 2019 • Par
Park in the large field on the opposite side of the road. TIP: If approaching from Henstead do not park beside the company's signwritten van. It's nowhere near the gardens! From the car park there is a small gate in the corner of the field leading across the road to the garden entrance.
The gardens are truly exotic and tropical, not a rip-off, with water features and an abundance of tropical jungle plants. There are many benches in cool and shady places. There is a small tearoom and WC. There is an extensive nursery with tropical and exotic plants for sale. At £4, the gardens are well worth a visit. NB only open on Sundays and, In summer, Wednesday afternoons.
