This was a second rate attempt at a cooking 'school'! We drove a short distance from Ronda and arrived at a small hotel. It was a hot, sunny day and we found out we were cooking outside on gas burners. We made paella and our chef couldn't speak English so we had a translator which was okay, but not optimal. We chopped up the veggies and she showed us how to stir things up and vanished for 10 mins. She reappeared to tell us to add something else before vanishing again while we clamored for shade. Once it was done we were told to sit outside. There we were served an average meal where we only helped in making the paella. We were promised recipes and as of yet have received nothing. What a ripoff! This was actually quite embarrassing as we had a group of US travelers touring with us.

We are very sorry to see this review. The clients contacted us after the class, in which a substitute instructor was used. We were not satisfied with our partners' answers regarding what happened, and therefore refunded the client in full (the client had not requested a refund, but we felt it appropriate). We are very sorry there was a problem and that they did not have the experienced they expected, but we feel that we took care of the issue promptly. We want our cooking classes to be the highlight of every client's trip! Sincerely, The International Kitchen

I'll admit it: we're foodies and knowledgeable home cooks. I thought it would be fun to take a course on Spanish cooking. We were driven from our hotel in Ronda to a small hotel in the middle of nowhere near Gaucin--lovely drive, nice hotel. We made pil-pil (shrimp fried in lots of garlic/chile oil), paella, and tiramisu (which is, of course, not Spanish), and a salad, all in the empty dining room, using a gas burner for the pil-pil and paella. It was more like a cooking demonstration, or watching the back-of-the-house staff in a small restaurant, with not much context; most everything was pre-cut and pre-measured. We did not shop for our food as advertised; we did not "gain an understanding of Spanish cuisine." If it had been more like the price of the lunch we made and then ate VERY early, it would have been great, but it was expensive.

I am quite mystified by this report. We had only one booking for our class in Andalusia in September, and due to a miscommunication, the class was canceled and our clients were given a full refund. So whatever class you are describing is not one we booked! We stand behind everything we sell, and if there is an issue, we attend to it immediately and determine what has gone wrong. If this had been our class and we were notified at the time, we would have made arrangements to refund a sizable portion of the payment. Karen Herbst President/Owner The International Kitchen

If you want to go see the Alhambra and Cordoba and also experience the local culture and FOOD, book yourselves into the International Cooking School's course with Maki and Clive [info@finca-las-encinas.com]. This husband and wife team are a perfect combination of host, guide and friendly family . They are a mine of inside information on all things in the region. Everything is prepaid, so sit back, relax and enjoy. Through excellent cooking skills, Clive will teach you how to prepare the regional cuisine. Wines and sherries, specially chosen to compliment each dish are served and enjoyed in the little spanish village of Iznaha, midway between Granada and Cordoba. When we arrived we were taken straight away to a village festival to mingle with the locals. Maki takes charge of trips to varoius places of interest including the Alhambra where tickets must be booked in advance if you don't have connections. Maki handles all the itinery with ease and caters specially to individual desires. For example., my desire to ride and Andelucian horse was organised by Maki who delivered me and then collected me after the ride. A fantastic experience. My daughter loved the experience staying with Clive and Maki as much as I did. They cater to all age groups. It is an experience never to be forgotten and one you cannot get by visiting as a usual tourist. Thank you Clive and Maki.
