Only 2 out of floors were open and the cafe was closed - yet still charged the full price to go in. This wasn’t apparent until we’d paid to go in.
Don’t go expecting to learn about the Jewish people in New York, it’s more of a contemporary art gallery.
Left feeling ripped off.

At the upper reaches of Museum Mile is this wonderful offering. Housed in the historic Felix M. Warburg mansion, it has both a permanent collection as well as specialized exhibitions.
I visited on a rainy Friday morning, as there were three current exhibits I wanted to see. The first was a replica of Frederick Kiesler's modern, innovative home library set up. Next up was a short history of Coney Island and its long-standing Jewish connection, told through photos and two carefully carved carousel horses. Lastly, several of the late Justice Ruth Baser Ginsberg's beautiful legal collars and jabots were shown, side by side with ornate tribal jewelry from all over the world.
A great spot to begin your museum day, as I did, or round it off. And it's close to a sweeping view of the Jacqueline Onassis Reservoir in Central Park at Engineer's Gate.

What a lovely little museum! Actually, not that little.. there was quite a bit to see. Everything was well organized and curated. We saw the exhibit of RBG collar photographs as well as a delightful exhibit on Coney Island. One of the highlights is a room packed with Jewish artifacts. Unfortunately, a school group came into that room and we had to vacate, but the exhibit had wonderful descriptions of the use and history of the artifacts.
The museum is right off Central Park a few blocks beyond the Metropolitan Museum. Personally, I prefer intimate museums like this to huge and overwhelming museums like the Met.
The museum has a small but nice gift shop that had interesting books and Judaica gift items. Some of the items related to the plagues were a little kitchy but it was a fun place to browse.

We were quite fortunate to visit during the Minujin exhibition... superb collection of the work of this Argentinan conceptual and performance artist. Best selection of her work I've ever been able to enjoy... the exhibit is on until April 1 so there's till time! Really a must. We were also very pleased with the permanent collection. Quite impressive group of works by Jewish artists or touching on Jewish themes... Warhol, Alice Neel, Alex Katz, Joan Snyder, Louise Nevelson, Pissarro, Kehinde Wiley, Adolph Gottlieb. Check the exhibition schedule for your interest -- great exhibition for fashionistas right now -- but the permanent collection makes it well worth the visit, too. On Museum Row just after the Met, Guggenheim and Neue Galerie.

Enjoyed visit today. Small museum. 3 floors. 3 different exhibits. Especially enjoyed the RGB collars and the film of 10 Jewish weddings.

This is a museum that generally goes unnoticed among the iconic museums on Manhattan's Upper East Side. However, it seemed to me to be a small gem, with three floors - the first two for temporary exhibitions: very interesting - and a third with the permanent collection. Highly recommended.

A perfect mix of old and new art work. The Chagall was my favourite but I was introduced to many new Jewish artists such as Michael Gross and Louise Fishman; and art of Jewish interest.
The painting of Gertrude Stein by Andy Warhol was inspired.
Cultural and religious artefacts spanning 2000 years were thoughtfully curated and the information was presented clearly. I was fascinated by the amulets in particular. Reasonably priced, a lift, free cloakroom and toilets made it a thoroughly accessible visit.
The shop sells original artwork, an impressive book collection, and hundreds of items from a dollar to a thousand dollars. I bought a tapestry mezuzah case amongst other things.
Can’t recommend enough.

Well worth visiting, even if you are not of the faith. The name of the museum suggests that it is all about the Jewish faith, whereas it is more a presentation of art work by Jewish artists. Almost like visiting places like MOMA.

The NYC Jewish Museum has a permanent exhibit with special exhibits. The unique V Sassoon exhibit had various portraits by S Sargent of the Sassoon family and old Jewish manuscripts on one floor. Learning about the V. Sassoon family's history from Iraq to India, shanghai, and England was fascinating. This exhibit is moving to another museum in August.

A somewhat eclectic museum that has art and artifacts, which may be tangentially or closely related to Jews. Check what the exhibits are and decide if you want to attend. We recently attended the Sassoon exhibit that was excellent. They also run a film festival and various adult and children performances. There is an admission fee.

Apologies for not seeing this sooner--I hope you visited us! There is no need to pre-book a ticket for our exhibitions and the line is rarely long.
Best,
