Definitely worth a visit…
sep. 2021 • Par
We walked up from Gwithian Beach & were lucky enough to see two tiny white seal pups on the rocks at low tide at this cove….no sign of Mom though!
The viewing area is high above the cove & there are sighs asking visitors to try & remain quiet in order to avoid disturbing the seals.

Visit at low tide for the best view of seals
okt. 2021 • Par
Visit at low tide for the seal viewing as the cove is probably full of water at high tide. We visited in early October and it was uncrowded and with plenty of seals basking in the beach. The viewing area is quite high up so take binoculars for a closer view. We saw seals swimming in the sea and also a little white pup feeding on mum. You can hear the seals “barking” too. Overall, a truly wonderful experience.

There are a few different parking areas - more expensive closer to the seals £2 or £4 for an hour (free for National Trust members). Free toilets in the car park closest to seals and a busy cafe in the furthest car park. If you can manage the walk along the headland from the furthest car park, it is definitely worth it and has lovely views. You can also walk along the beach at low tide and then climb the steps up to the seal viewing area. Needless to say (hopefully), access to the beach where the wild seals are is strictly prohibited for conservation reasons, so don’t expect to get close to them.

Great walk with stunning views. Sadly no seals when I went but worth the climb up for the scenery. Nice to see signage to keep quiet because of the seal pups.

We walked along the coast and the blue waves crashed against the cliffs. When we reached the top, we could see the adorable seals wobbling along the sand and they were very cute!

Shussshhhhh.....

It's an easy walk from Gwithian beach up to Mutton Cove. The tide was in and there were no seals to be seen.

However, the Cove is treated almost with reverence as people peer over the wooden barrier and speak in whispers obeying the signs to not disturb the wildlife. People with dogs kept them away in case they barked and lively children were dragged away quickly. There were photographers with VERY big cameras keeping very still waiting to catch the perfect shot. Quite something to experience.

Nice walk
juni 2021
We parked easily at Godrevy car park (I can't remember how much it was but it seemed reasonable) and walked up. We passed some loos on the way but didn't use them so can't comment. Unfortunately we didn't see any seals (about 11am, fairly low tide) but it was a lovely view/area to walk around and we had a nice walk back along Gwithian Beach.

Such a delight being able to take in the beautiful coast whilst watching grey seals resting in the cove. An absolute must see if you’re visiting the Hayle coastline!

Seals and superb views

We didn't realise this area has a population of seals so what a fabulous surprise when we rounded the headland near the lighthouse!

The sea was choppy but clear enough to see seals at play hunting for food. This area itself is really idyllic with stunning coastal scenery

Seal sightseeing
okt. 2020 • Familj
As a family we have a bucket list. On that list is seeing seals bathing on a beach. I did a bit of research whilst in Cornwall and found Mutton Cove near Godrevy Beach not far from where we were staying.

The car park is a National Trust car park which is perfect as we are members so parked for free. There is a lovely cafe selling a variety of food and drink and toilet facilities.

The walk to see the seals is gorgeous. Walking along the coast you can see Godrevy Lighthouse, the waves crashing around it. I felt like I was in a book or a movie. Slightly windy in October, but the views we were met with when we eventually got to the cove (about 30/40 minutes from our car park) was beautiful. There were so many seals, some baby ones too. The children were slightly concerned to begin with as they thought they weren’t very well as they were laying so still, but then suddenly a few of them starting to as my son says “do the caterpillar” across the beach on their bellies. It was an amazing sight and definitely something you need to see at some point in your life. Spent a good hour or so at the edge just watching and taking it all in. Watching the waves crashing around them. Also trying to spot some dolphins and sharks that have been known to be around the same area. (We were not lucky this time).

Definitely a must see here, you can walk much further along than we did as it is part of the Coastal walking route, so it is well signposted.

The beach down to the seals is off limits and rightly so to keep the animals safe. There is however a beautiful dune beach right near the car park which was another amazing time waster for us. A good half a day spent down there and would definitely visit again.
