Great place to get some fresh air
jan. 2021
First time here in a few years. Now their trails are all mapped out, volunteers on duty. At least one trail is asphalt-paved. Nice looking facility by the parking lot but there were plumbing problems the morning I arrived. I was greeted outside by a staff person who explained what I could expect. There's a great large display of the trails right by the front door. I was short on time so I only took the shorter trail and it was very enjoyable. I will be going back to check out the longer more strenous trails. It's very nice to find something like this during these COVID times when we need to exercise and get outdoors. Good job, Sand Springs.

NOT OPEN Although website says it is
sep. 2020
We drove 30 minutes to get to this trail. The website indicates they are open on weekends from 8-2. Google also has their hours as 8-2 on Sunday. We arrived at 9:30 and the place was locked up. Huge disappointment. I am not writing this to be mean, but so that others know to call before they drive all the way up here.

A quiet place of peace
sep. 2019 • Familj
This is a great place to go to have a quiet time of peace. If you want your children to see an un-touristy, but true, old Oklahoma area, where there is really nothing but trees and nature, this is an under-stated, out of the way, place that fits the bill.

A nice day hike

This wasn't a photo opportunity which is why we went there. All the hikers were enjoying themselves though. Beware of all the poison ivy, it's everywhere.

Another sweet little gem about 15 min west of Tulsa!
okt. 2018 • Familj
We're not hard core-hikers, but with 10 and 8 yo boys, we do enjoy walking/hiking a few miles on a cool weekend near Tulsa at Turkey Mountain (our most frequented but can be slightly trashy in places), Oxley Nature Center, River Park trails, and now this. This place is beautiful! Trails are well-marked, easy (to moderate), and paved for a short distance. Also some gravel and dirt areas as well. We did the 2.8 mile Frank Trail loop which was perfect for the kids. Met some friendly, informative volunteers and fellow walkers. Many 500 year old trees you'd have no idea are so old! Feels a long way out from town, but is surprisingly close and very relaxing. The area is being developed as a Nature Reserve, so make sure you're aware of the extremely limited hours on select Saturdays or you could be in for frustration. Pretty views of Arkansas River and Keystone Lake halfway thru the trail that could rival driving a few hours east into NW Arkansas!

5k
dec. 2017
My husband, daughter and I walked a 5k that the Keystone Ancient Forest was sponsoring. It was very, very cold that day. The hills were not too tough to walk. The scenery was what one would expect that time of year. I would like to go back to see it in the spring or summer to see the scenery all green.

Hiking Made Easy!
okt. 2017 • Par
We recently hiked the Keystone Ancient Forest for the first time a couple of weeks ago. There are port-a-potties and a water hydrant is available. There is one hiking trail that is completely black topped and perfect for an easy hike, it is even ADA compliant. Taking someone on a stroll in a wheelchair would make a great outing here. There are other trails cut and clearly marked for all levels of hiking. They were preparing a newly cut trail that was a bit over 5 miles while we were there. Bring your camera, there are a couple of spots with lookout areas to see the lake. I was pleased and will return.

Check Trail Times Before You Venture Out
juli 2017 • Familj
We wanted to try this with our grandchildren. The website indicated that the trails opened at 8 a.m. and closed at 2 p.m. After a long drive, on Wednesday at 10 a.m. the sign said the place was closed. What a let down for the kids. Nothing on the city of Sandsprings indicated that it was only open a few times per year for hiking. I posted the sign as a picture so others would not be disappointed.

Easy hiking
okt. 2016 • Vänner
This is a very well maintained trail near Keystone lake. There is a short trail that is paved and suitable for strollers. I would hesitate to take someone in a wheelchair, as parts are rather steep. The other main trail is partly gravel, partly grass or smooth rock. The elevation change is generally gradual, and we saw many families with children or older hikers. The view at the end is through the trees to the lake below. The only negative is that it is only open to the public at random times and you have to get the announcements via Facebook.

Impressive Rock Formations
sep. 2016 • Par
My husband and I hiked all 3 trails - it was a little over 5 miles total and 2 hours. The Wilson trail was our favorite. It's not marked well on the map. It splits off from the Frank Trail - there is a sign, but there was also a volunteer there to help direct people. It was steep and you get to climb around giant rocks. The rock formations were very impressive. It is only a mile but it is a steep descent and then a steep ascent with some switch backs. Definitely going to get your heart rate up.
Since the park is not open very many days of the year it was a little crowded. When we arrived at 9 there was a retirement bus full of people and a whole boy scout troupe. For those that are looking for geocaches - there is one geocache.
