Its a bit corny with the animatronic displays out of the 1950s but it is very informative and the people are nice. They also have live displays somedays that show you how the mills work.

This place is great for adults and fantastic for kids. We were looking for things to see and do as we drove north from Moline Illinois on the Great River Road and stopped at the Sawmill Museum. It gives you a great look at the history of the lumber business on the Mississippi and Clinton Iowa in particular.

We stop by the Sawmill Museum nearly every time we visit Clinton. Our kids love all of the activities for them including the biggest water table we’ve ever seen! The adults enjoy learning more about Clinton’s rich history in the lumber industry. We’ve also enjoyed the Holiday Train from here as well. This is a great place for all ages!

My nephew had an awesome time playing with all of the items in each of the log cabins in the loggers camp. The water table is huge and lots of fun. There is a river rafting log transporting game that was also fun for kids and adults. We missed out on the train ride, guess they can only give rides when they have enough employees there.

I created an itinerary of different attractions in the Fulton, IL and Clinton, IA areas for a group coming from Lansing, IL that had not ever been to our communities. Their tour began at the Sawmill museum. I greeteded my group when they arrived there to welcome them and introduce them to the Director of the Sawmill Museum, Matthew Parb. Once everyone was off the coach, they were treated to delicious refreshments from Fulton: fresh craft coffees from Steam Anchor Coffee & Cafe and fresh homemade danish, muffins, scones and danish from Krumpets Bakery & Cafe and then they took seats in the large presentation area. Matt proceeded to give an incredible historical narrative and slide presentation of the history behind Clinton and Fulton and their logging business history along the Mississippi River, which everyone in the room was soon deeply enthralled with. After this, the group enjoyed the demonstration of the large antique circular saw like they had used during the "log raft" historical times, and watched as the volunteers at the Sawmill Museum cut through a large tree trunk like it was a knife slicing through soft butter. The personnel a the Sawmill Museum were so very accommodating, personable and so VERY knowledgeable! My group (and myself!) learned a lot that day and had a wonderful visit here. Whatever the size or age of a group or family, there is something for everyone at the Sawmill Museum in Clinton, Iowa.

They do an interseting job of presenting the history of logging on the Mississippi, with talking heads of 4 of the early business man. That part and the raft simulator were very good. There was also a walk-through history. The price was very reasonable. Clearly the place is a favorite of people with young children. A whole sections was designed for them to run, and run, and run....and there was a birthday party going on the day we were there so there were lots of kids running. Worth the stop.

Museum that has alot of rich history about the sawmill era in clinton. Lots of machines, pics, and props to demonstrate things. Also they have a great area for kids to play like a water table that they can float the boats and logs down, a video game that depicts rafting down a river and more. I would recommend checking it out if in the area.

We decided to visit this little museum after seeing it on a bill board outside of Clinton. We were just on a Saturday drive. We live in the Mid West and so are acquainted with much of our regional history. However, we had no idea that Clinton, Iowa had been the main supplier of lumber to the Old West and late 19th century America!

Displays are unique and easy to view. They have talking lumber Barrons, a sawmill, displays and architectural drawings of the early city and its' important buildings. Lots of things for kids!!!

We had a personal mini tour by the docent there that day. A very nice experience. Highly recommend.

I grew up in the Clinton area and never knew so many interesting historical facts about the area. The "talking heads" of early lumber barons combined information and humor and the virtual reality-type experience of moving logs down the Mississippi was informative and fascinated our 9-year old grandson. The photographs and exhibits of local lumber mills added to the history of the lumber industry in Clinton.
