This is a beautiful 1762 historic stone house, the first American house of the Audubon family. The house is 2 1/2 story and it overlooks the Perkiomen Creek. Pleasant back porch with a view, interesting construction details like stone chimneys and gabled dormers and nice setting in the beautiful estate make it worthwhile to see. Audubon sold the house soon after his wedding. Currently during the coronavirus pandemic the tour includes just exterior inspection of the building and the interiors are closed to visitors.

Sweet, off-the-beaten-tracks mansion and grounds, plus walking trails. Large, modern visitors building being built close by, scheduled for early opening in June 2019. Low cost of admission ($5 ish).

this is a fun place to go and learn about the history of audubon. we also like to rock in the chairs on the back deck that overlooks the river. they have many hiking trails as well. beautiful property. used to be free to tour the museum,. but when teh Audubon Wildlife Society took over, they started charging an entrance fee, not sure what it currently is, was $4 per person when we went a couple years ago.

I recommend checking out the John James Audubon Center and Mansion on a nice day so you can take a family friendly hike through the woods. There are also pathed walkways if you have a stroller or want to bike. Leave the dog at home because pets are not allowed. It is also a great place to draw, paint or photograph because there are bathrooms available.

The Mill Grove Mansion and surround bird sanctuary are a hidden gem in Montgomery County. This is where John James Audubon first lived in the United States. You can walk through the mansion and when you're finished sit on the wide porch and look across the lawan toward the Perkiomen Creek. The grounds have several hiking trails and there is also a bike trail During the year they have special events-Audubon's Birthday Celebration, Apple Butter Festival in the Fall, etc. It is a great place to visit to turn back the clock and just relax.

My 7year old daughter and I went to the Audubon House while other family members were at an event at the nearby expo center. She had seen some of Audubon's drawings in her science book (in a section on nature journaling), and was excited to find out that we could visit his first home in America.

I did not know many details of his life prior to our visit. There was an introduction by a docent, then a video and self guiding tour. We enjoyed looking at the original books, mounts, and art on the walls. There was a room arranged for kids to try some art, and a room with a changing exhibit by local artists.

There are many are many trails on the grounds. We enjoyed a short walk, and would have explored more if we had time. If in the area again, we would return.

Entitled my review "Learn all you can about him b4 you go" becuz you wont get much from the tour nor the little video they offer. The house sits far back away from the street & when you drive the little road leading up to it, you enter into a quieter world... beautiful really giving you a sense that you have stepped back in time with the many trees surrounding it and birds flying all around & singing. Upon entering the house & paying for the tour, we were ushered in room adjacent to gift shop & a sweet young lady gave her (5 minutes..??) tour in that one room using the memorized tour speech which was not to be interrupted with questions or additional info ....so she left us in the little room and went back into gift shop...although she was the only person within the house running the tour AND the gift shop so she was kinda spread thin... small tv in same room had a VERY short video to give info about the place and him. You can go room to room within the 3 floor mansion and remain as long as you want in each room observing whatever info within that specific room. There are a couple of big owls within cages outside the house on the premise which wisely hide within the cage so that you can't annoy them by staring at them or taking pictures. Multiple trails to take or sit on benches or walk down to river where Audubon was alleged to have skated on it when it would freeze in the winter or swim in during summer. No food or little snacks served there so eat before you go. Ask tour guide to point direction which Lucy's house is situated not far from Audubons. It's HUGE!!!...like the White House....private property so you cant go in but pull over & look at it from the streets. Mill Grove House is definitely worth going to...especially the bedroom upstairs whereas he turned in a kinda museum along with other paraphernalia. Overall we enjoyed being there.

This is a beautiful park. There is a self-guided tour of the home of John James Audubon with his original water colors and books displayed. There are several nature trails which are lovely - we did not get to do the birding trails and/or nature trails - but will definitely return to do them.

The house at Mill Grove was the first home of John James Audubon in America. He lived there for a few years, during which he met and married his wife. He also became interested in documenting the native birds and animals while living here; this would later translate into his project "Birds of America." The house is preserved as a museum-small, but well-done. They have an elephant folio of an original "Birds of America" as well as other books & papers. You can also explore the grounds, which have trails and of course attract birds. The Valley Forge Audubon Society sponsors activities here, as well.
