The look out offers a great view of the pond, but also the surrounding area - especially at sunrise and sunset. This is a brief stop, but worthwhile if in the morning or afternoon.

One of the stops on our van tour. The story behind the pond, and the legend of the Menehunes is pretty cool, but I think seeing it from the roadway parking lot is about all you need. It was also the hottest place we stopped, due to being away from the coast and the breezes.

Our guide from a kayak tour told us about the Menehune fish pond. It sounded interesting so we wanted to see it. It's pretty incredible given it is estimated to have been built in the 1400s. The ancient Hawaiians were technologically advanced. The signage at the overlook isn't well written, I thought it was confusing and could have been more informative. What was the size of the population that the fish pond supported when it was built? Is it still in use?

A historic Hawaiian fishpond listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The pond is bounded by a 900-foot-long wall at a large bend in Hulēʻia River. It has been deemed "the most significant fishpond on Kauai, both in Hawaiian legends and folklore and in the eyes of Kauai's people today". It is the largest fishpond on Kauai and is estimated to have been constructed in the 15th century.

There is an overlook when you take the Puhi bypass towards Lihue, with interpretive signs explaining what the fishponds are and how they were constructed. There is also an inordinate amount of trash which detracted from the visit. Why do people have to throw their trash at these scenic locations? Just a quick stop, mildly interesting.

Legion says that it was built by "little people" in one day. It is surrounded by stones. Saw it on a tour. Wouldn't go out my way to see it.

GPS initially took us to the side of the road to cut through thick jungle to access the actual pond. We just followed the road SE and found the lookout area. If you GPS to Menehune Fishpond Overlook, you will have better luck. The signs were really informative and interesting. It was cool to see such an amazing engineering feat in person. We also saw fish jumping in the pond. Worth the stop and it's free.

Big disappointment.
We stopped at this attraction. There was graffiti everywhere. There was some information about how the pond was created that was interesting.
Not much to see.

We were so close to our condo we decided to take a peek, not really something special to see or do but when in Kauai you must take in EVERYTHING!! Turns out to be kind of cool though. Only took about 10 minutes. But anything in Hawaii is worth the time! Good views though.
