Green park
apr. 2021
King's Domain Gardens are part of the beautiful gardens along St Kilda Road, by the Yarra River, all the way down, including the Botanic Gardens. There are large tracts of green space, full of trees, bushes, lovely plants and wonderful flowers, statues, monuments, water features and other nice things. Quite an experience.

An elegant patchwork of gardens and paths
maj 2021
In the depths of the Great Depression, Hugh Linaker came up with a design for a new garden for Melbourne. Linaker was a pioneering landscape gardener. Thousands of workers employed on "susso" (sustenance wages) turned his vision into a reality, now known as King's Domain. The shrubs and flower gardens between Government House Reserve and King's Domain bloom most of the year. The rest of the Domain is characterized by sweeping lawns and mature European and Australian trees. Victorians like to say they are "the Garden State," a soubriquet to which the King's Domain makes a notable contribution.

Lovely open green space.

The parklands along St Kilda Road are quite large and contain numerous memorials, monuments and statues. There are walking paths, places to park the car and the Tan Track, a fine gravel running track. A lovely place to visit in the middle of Melbourne.

Floral clock
jan. 2021
Awesome gardens in the heart of Melbourne. Great place to escape the hustle and bustle and have some quiet down time amongst gorgeous gardens. The floral clock is an iconic part of the garden. From Jan to March there is a purple Uoo Uoo as part of the art trail raising funds for the RCH. Love coming here and soaking in the beauty.

The garden state
dec. 2020
Only in a state once labeled the garden state could you find such an amazing garden next to the Botanical gardens. The Kings Domain Gardens are a lovely introduction to Melbourne or a great place to visit at the end or start of your visit before other attractions open.

Highlights include

* walkers fountain
* shelter of peace (Maltese war memorial)
* weary Dunlop statue
* Sydney Myer music bowl
* the shrine
* Pioneer women’s garden
* the grotto

Transport: you can take a tram down St Kilda Road (numerous routes depart from Swanson st and fed square)

A smorgasbord of things to see and do here
juli 2020
King's Domain Gardens house many of the items I photographed below. Botanical Gardens [great place to learn about our flora and fauna], Yarra River [lifeline to the city and sporting arenas], Sidney Myer Music Bowl [opera in the park and other concerts] and the Shrine of Remembrance [plenty to see for war/history buffs].

The Tan and numerous other walking paths intertwine throughout the Domain. People come from far and wide to be here [though currently, only if in a 5km radius - to be revised mid-September].

You will find war memorials, statues of past kings and war heroes such as Sir Weary Dunlop and King George V, American Woodland and Pioneer Women's Memorial gardens, large bells, temples/pavilions, impressive gates/arches, dedication to our Aboriginal Heritage, plus grottos [Fern Gully] and Walker Fountain.

I usually visit this area at least once a week [less during lockdown] as it makes for an interesting and informative 1-2 hour walk.

The women who made a nation
mars 2020
King's Domain's hidden treasure is officially known as the Pioneer Women's Memorial Garden. It's more notable for being a return to the symetrical gardens of England's Elizabethan era. The garden was created in 1934. This secret garden is well worth taking a few minutes to find -- just follow the signposts. The garden is very calm and pleasant. The highlight is the pond, which leads to an ivy-draped grotto sheltering a water numph statue. My grandmother was brought up on a farm where there was never much of anything except hard work, so I appreciate this memorial to these pioneering women

Large and beautiful gardens so close to the centre of the city. A lovely place to wander with peace. Lawns, trees, flowers, ponds, statues - the gardens have it all.

Relaxing gardens with so much to see
nov. 2019
Generations of Melbournians have been coming to these gardens to picnic on the Linlithgow Lawn or to appreciate the history. Close to the city (especially via St Kilda Rd on a tram). Numerous points of interest including nice views of the city

You could enter via Alexandra Ave and enjoy the pioneer garden or come via St Kilda Rd trams.

My highlight would be the Malta War Memorial on Birdwood Ave.

TIP: excellent spot to cheaply park car along Birdwood Ave. but also very popular
