Unlike any National Trust property we have been to before. It was very relaxed and comfortable to walk around, with a very warm atmosphere. Lots of information and interesting items to see. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
I think the history is still being investigated and so there is no guide book, at the moment, as they are still discovering information about the property and former inhabitants. This is a shame but understandable and something to look forward to in the future. Perhaps some information sheets with what thy do know to take away in the interim would be a good idea?
Car parking was easy with our NT cards being scanned there and no need to show them again.
No NT shop (shame, as I love them) but an excellent second hand bookshop.
The cafe was great with a limited menu but enough for needs. I can recommend the beef cawl, which was delicious but I would not have the lemon and orange cake again (dry and the topping was like marmalade). My husband really enjoyed his bacon bap and shortbread slice.
The staff here were again very friendly and helpful but the service was a little slow.
We found the fairy village very sweet and it amused us - I imagine children will love it - and whilst we didn't have the time to explore further, there is plenty more to see, if you have the time.
Overall a lovely property to visit and we look forward to returning in a couple of years to see what more it has to offer.

Regular visitors to this National Trust property. Lots of great walks in the grounds, in the Deer Park, up (steep!) to the old castle and through the grounds. Nice cafe with excellent mocha, gingerbread latte and cheese scones as a reward for all the walking.

Had a lovely walk around the grounds and enjoyed lunch in the very busy cafe (Jacket Potato with Tuna and Cheese, Cappuccino and a cream tea to share). Loved the boardwalk walk and enjoyed seeing the deer in the deer park.

Dinewyr is a wonderful park to visit with or without a visit to the mansion - Newton House. So many beautiful dog-friendly walks and plenty of other places to see like Dinewyr Castle and Llandyfeisant Church. The parkland was landscaped by Capability Brown in the 1700s. The view of the Towy Valley from the castle walls is magnificent. The whole place is a photographer’s paradise. I love it here.

Lovely day out at the Christmas fair: music, mulled wine, mince pies, a really lovely and truly local fair, a warm welcome and the most beautiful Christmas tree I have ever seen.
The staff were lovely and lent us a sporty wheelchair.

We enjoyed walking the grounds and looking at the castle. The paths were not very well marked so it was a good thing we had plenty of time. We actually did not get to the castle until after it was supposed to be closed, but luckily it was still open.
The Newton house was a waste of time and not worth admission. The lunch we purchased at the house was the worst lunch we had on our 3 week time to Wales. Horrible sandwiches, very sad.
So we had a mixed experience.

Beautiful grounds and views the house was so interesting and the staff were so helpful and friendly so relaxing to walk around the grounds and if you can walk quite well it's worth going up to the castle where the views are amazing!!

We visited for a day out to see the house and castle. Really helpful tour guides although it is a self guided walk around the house. Extremely interesting property which is set in what was a vast private estate.
Lovely walk to the old castle which takes about half and hour each way but is well worth it. The views are incredible.
The boardwalk leading in to the deer park is also very beautiful.
Excellent tea shop in the house offering a good selection of refreshments.
Overall a great place to visit.

We visited this castle as it is in the grounds of Newton House. You can climb the ramparts and towers for views of the river. Feels like you are nowhere near a town.

How suitable would the walk be for a pram guys?
MacRossiter
Chipping Sodbury, UK63 inlägg
A few of the paths would be fine for a pram, for instance the Bog Boardwalk (which is down a somewhat steep but paved lane behind Newton House). The track from the house/parking to the castle would support a rugged pram, but it would be a bit of a slog. Other paths in the park, for instance through Castle Woods or around the Capability Brown walk via the Rookery--no.

is it dog friendly? can you walk to the castle without having to climb over stiles?
SarahRJ4
Cambridge, UK14 inlägg
Yes it is dog friendly and no stiles to climb over but a gate to open on the way to the castle. The cafe on the way up to the castle was dog friendly. We saw a few dogs there during our visit too. I believe the only place dogs were not allowed was in the deer park and the main house. Hope that helps!

Yes, at the house on the ground floor but would be almost impossible to reach the Castle.
