Absolutely beautiful castle, the best views down over the amman valleys. I love this place. So picturesque,peacefull and quiet. Isn't as busy as other bigger castles but just as much worth a visit as those highly advertised castles

We have been here numerous times and even had our wedding ceremony here. Never tire of it. One of my favourite places in the world!

Didn't attempt the climb but the visit to the restaurant was worth the trip.
We were taken here when visiting the Brecon Beacon area by a friend who lives locally.
We did not feel we could manage the climb but the views from below and around were very beautiful and inspiring.
We had a lovely lunch in the restaurant - we can recommend the Cawl - whilst watching the sheep grazing and birds swooping from the large windows overlooking the rolling fields at the foot of the castle hill.
We would certainly return and maybe even attempt the climb, knowing there would be a lovely meal waiting if we managed to see the caste close up.

A walk from the car park then through some old farm buildings one that has been converted into a tea room and up the hill the the ruined castle.
Spectacular views from the top of the limestone hill.
Inside the castle is a tunnel leading to a tiny natural spring so bring a torch not a mobile phone as we did.

Visited the castle on a lovely sunny afternoon having driven down single track roads for almost an hour to reach it. Could have gone easier way.
Gift shop and tea rooms were excellent (see photo for proof)
Didnt go into the castle as too expensive for what you see. The castle looks better from a distance.

The castle is brilliant. Go up and you can see for miles. Go down and you can follow an underground passage - you need your phone torch and to walk carefully. It's Wales so it was sunny and stormy in the space of one hour. It's a steep walk up from the ticket office to the castle but worth it for the ruins and the view.
The cafe was excellent. Good food, great window seats looking over the landscape. Nice range of things in the shop. It was £6.50 and personally I thought the ticket was well priced and certainly had my money's worth.

We are members of English Heritage / Cadw and we visited Carreg Cennen Castle on Saturday 30th July, so during the Summer holidays. We arrived late morning having made a special journey which took us 2 ½ hours. On arrival I popped into the gift shop/cafe and asked if there were any loos. The woman on duty sniffily told me they were for the use of customers only, so I said we’d pop in after seeing the castle. On the way out of the shop the woman asked to see my membership card – no problem. Then she asked what my husband’s membership number was – I mean, seriously, like I’d know that? She was deliberately being difficult, I said he’d surely be on the system under the same address. He had gone ahead without me, intending to show his card at the ticket booth on the road up to the castle. We have visited the castle several times before and know about the ticket booth where you pay or show your cards. Anyway I had to go out into the lane and shout up to him to come back as the lady wanted to see his card. I asked the lady about the ticket booth and she said it didn’t open until 11am, as per the sign outside. The sign didn’t say anything of the sort. The website also says about the ticket booth being open during opening hours at weekends and holidays. By this time my husband and I were both totally fed up with this unwelcoming and obstreperous attitude and we decided to just leave. Even as we were going back down the path towards the car park the woman was out in the lane shouting rudely at us. Suffice to say, we will not be going back. That lady needs some serious retraining in hospitality skills!

Brilliant castle. Absolutely mesmerising and a very pleasant experience from start to finish. Free parking was nice to see, we then stopped off at the little cafe and had a nice tea/coffee with a slice each of bara brith lovely, reasonably priced and the young chap who served us was lovely. Good start!
The walk up to the castle was easy but probably a bit steep if you're unsure on your legs. Very cheap price to enter and then a short walk up to the castle itself.
I don't want to ruin it, but the location is genuinely quite haunting and unlike some castles, where everything is blocked off for health and safety reasons, there's no such thing here. There's plenty of old staircases to walk up, precarious ledges where you could imagine guards staying watch over 800 years ago and a very steep, wet and exciting walk down a staircase into the catacomb like tunnels below the castle which culminate in an old cave. Chuck a penny in the water and make a wish!
Overall, very good value for money, steeped in history and nice cafe. What more could you want?

This castle is so photogenic and we were really lucky to be there on a sunny day. We enjoyed the walk up the hill and exploring the towers and finding the stunning views out of each 'window'. Do stop off for drinks and food at the cafe. The staff there are very friendly and helpful.

Wanted somewhere local to take a friend for a few hours out. It was beautiful. The castle interesting and the scenery just beautiful. Can't wait to come again and explore more.

It’s quite a steep path on farm track then up the grass hill. About 10 minutes walk.

If you have mobility issues, it would definitely be tricky as it is on a rocky hilltop. I can't put a link here but Cadw say "Disabled visitor and companion admitted free
