My husband and I stayed at the Curassow lodge in February 2020. It was off season (the rising water season) so we had the lodge for just ourselves. Everything from welcoming to the last minute was just perfect. We had an amazing guide Leoncio Nina, who grew up in this area and knows everything about local plants, animals, jungle survival tips and local village people life. He was fluent in English and very friendly with us. Our guide was very good at spotting animals. We saw sloths, pygmy monkeys, capuchin monkeys, red howler monkeys, dolphins, caymans, reptiles and many birds.
The lodge was very clean and the cabins felt cosy and relaxing to sleep in the middle of jungle noises. The meals were so delicious and served with love, fresh jungle fruits juices different every time, local fish. The food was a part of the jungle experience. They even cooked barracudas and piranhas that we coughed by our hands. The staff was constantly asking if we need something, and were willing to help if we just need something. After we left the lodge Leoncio helped us with the transportation to another lodge and two days later with the transportation to the airport. To conclude, IT WAS THE BEST EXPERIENCE WE HAVE EVER HAD ON OUR VACATIONS. If you decide to book this trip, BOOK DIRECTLY FROM THEM, they are very responsive and you can easily transfer money through Western Union.

Wir waren mit einer Gruppe von sieben Personen (40-60 Jahr) für drei Tage in der Curassow Lodge und hatten ein super Tierbeobachtungsprogramm. Es war sehr abwechslungsreich: Bootstouren bei Tag und Nacht, Dschungelspaziergänge, schwimmen im Amazonas in der Nähe von Delphinen, Besuch in einer Siedlung. Die Hütten waren sauber, die Betten bequem, das Essen sehr gut und abwechslungsreich und unser guide Marcos war super. Zu einem Geburtstag gab es Torte und Musik von einer Lifeband (Köche, Bootsführer, guides).

We had the best experience at curassow! Firstly, the guides were amazing and knew the jungle extremely well. We saw Amazon river dolphins, sloths, four species of monkeys, Cayman, hoatzin birds, macaws, and literally like a million other things. The guides would call to the animals and could spot them from a mile away. Also, the lodge was attentive to our every need. It is an eco-lodge, but we definitely got five star service. We had a large group (12 people) and they worked with us to make the experience awesome for every single individual in the group. We had two vegetarians, and so every meal they would make the regular food (which was super tasty, by the way) and then a whole other meal for the vegetarians. The lodge is also tied with some conservation organizations and you can the people there really are passionate about the jungle, not just making money. I would highly recommend curassow to anyone looking for an eco lodge!

Great family experience. Nixon, our guide, picked us up on time in Iquitos hotel, and we started our long journey to the lodge. First by bus, then 3+ hours on a speedboat up the Amazon river and its tributaries. The lodge itself is located in a very remote area on a river cul-de-sac. You are surrounded by nature, the jungle rhythms never stop.
We were travelling in early June, when Amazon water level was still dropping, and river banks were soft and very wet, so our on-land hike the first afternoon was short. But our guides still managed to show us plenty of wildlife - pygmy monkey, toucans, poisonous and not so much snake and many insects and plants. For each specie Nixon had a story to tell, and we learned a lot.
Next two days were mostly on the river - we watched exotic birds, sloths, river dolphins. We fished piranhas (and ate them perfectly grilled at lunch) and swam in muddy Amazon water.
Bungalows were as comfortable as Amazon jungle lodging can be - they come with a balcony, mosquito nets, showers (do not drink or even brush teeth with this water - always use bottled or filtered water) and electricity during daylight. Food was ok, the chef tried to introduce us to local fruit, vegetables and fish.
Last day we visited a nearby village where a dozen of native mostly women showed us their handcrafts. This was of course staged, still it was valuable experience for our family, we had an opportunity to take a close look at native people way of life. These people are extremely poor, and appreciate any help/donation/purchase you are willing to offer. The lodge employs several young men from this tribe, and was planning to build a new secondary school. Getting better education is the only way up for this community.
On the last day we boarded a fast boat (very smelly with gasoline fumes unfortunately) and they quickly brought us back to Iquitos port, and then on a comfortable bus to the airport.

My friend and I had a 3D2N tour with Curassow Amazon Lodge and it was one of the most memorable trips of my life.
Remember when they said people don’t take trips but trips take people? This was it for me. I have seen various animals in the wild. I will never forget the playful pink dolphins by the river, the glowing eyes of caymans in the dark, the loud roar of a jaguar from afar, the diverse species of birds everywhere I look, the curious monkeys swaying from trees to trees, to name a few.
However, there were 2 main reasons why this trip left an imprint in me. First, I am grateful for the people of the lodge and the nearby town of Ayacucho. I have never felt this home away from home. They made us feel welcome and it felt like a family. I would like to thank our funny and knowledgeable tour guide Marcos, the kind manager Martin who took us back to the airport for free, the cook Ricardo for delicious meals, the quiet boatman Colombia, the bartender Joel with his delightful refreshment, and of course, Wilder whose smiles we will not forget. Second, on our last night, we went to the middle of the river, turned the boat engine and lights off, and stayed silent. It was one of the most profound moments and it put my life into perspective. I realised what matters most. We even saw a shooting star and I forgot to make a wish because I was just grateful for the experience. And maybe because, even before the shooting star comes, I already have my wish, that is - inner peace.
The lodge is not perfect. But it was the most perfectly imperfect place to be for me to realise life’s treasures and why I am travelling in the first place.

Let me start by saying that I highly recommend this company/lodge to you. Not because we had the most relaxing time here out of our entire trip to Peru, which is true, but because this company prioritizes safety. Anytime we got on to a boat we were expected to wear a life jacket. Even when the river was low. We passed several other operators on the river and saw that their passengers weren't required to. They had life jackets but they were hanging behind the seats instead of being on the passenger!
I also couldn't help but notice that they had larger groups. This company only took your group out. At any given time, it was just me, my husband, and the guide. Even if another group from the lodge was going close to the same spot as us, we went separately. So each excursion is personalized and you get your guide's full attention. I appreciated that.
Now for the details, my husband and I spent three days, two nights at Curassow Amazon Lodge. We felt like this was just the right amount of time for us.
We were met at our hotel in Iquitos by Marcos, our guide, and Martin, the owner. After depositing our larger bags at the office, Marcos took us to the Belen market by tuk-tuk. We saw and learned so much from him at the market. Then we were whisked off by boat to the lodge.
The set up is you have two excursions each day, with a long siesta during the hot afternoons, which are so much needed. Each excursion has a different agenda, e.g., one was for watching pink river dolphins, another bird watching, etc.
Marcos, who speaks great English, is an awesome guide and very easy going. He is extremely knowledgeable on birds and the jungle. He brought his bird guidebooks with him and after pointing out a particular bird, he would locate it in his book. My husband would then catch a picture of the page so we could remember all the birds we saw and their names.
The staff at the lodge are all kind and very welcoming. The night before my birthday, after dinner, they all came out and surprised me with a cake. Apparently, Martin, who noticed my birthday on my passport, planned it with them. The staff sang and threw confetti and then distributed the cake to everyone that were staying at the lodge. I couldn't believe their generosity. They barely knew me yet they went to this length to make my birthday special. Once you stay here you know how remote it is and it's not easy to get things here but they made it happen. I still can't thank them enough.
Also note that the lodge is rustic. It's very much like camping except you have a bed and a bathroom with a flushable toilet. Expect lots of insects and bugs, esp. mosquitoes. So plan accordingly. Martin did give us lots of good info so we were prepared!

Nuestro guía fue Marcos, un encanto y todo un profesional, el control de las lanchas estaba a manos de Jordan, que navegó por sitios que parecían imposibles y que decir de la comida de Ricardo, espectacular.
Tan solamente el estar allí merece la pena.

Era la última parada del viaje a Perú así que seria la última sensación que tendría y muy bien. El personal encantador. Nuestro guia Marcos lo tenia todo: era amable, listo, con muchísimo conocimiento sobre la selva. La verdad es que no me hubiera importado quedarme más.
Ricardo, el cocinero, es muy bueno. Todo lo que comimos delicioso. El resto del staff: Jordan, Tony y Yoel encantadores también. Altamente recomendable.

Forget about everyday life in rush for a moment. Become a nature observer supported by professionals from Currasow Lodge. Perfect food served 3 times and several exploring activities every day. Would definetely recommend this trip to Amazonia.

We want to thank you for your kindness and interest in sharing your experience about Curassow Amazon Lodge with other travelers interested in visiting the Peruvian Amazon rainforest.
We are glad that you enjoyed our location in the heart of the Amazon jungle. We are located in a remote area, around 110 km (68 miles) away Iquitos city, inside the Tamshiyacu Tahuayo Reserve.
Our ecolodge is in front of a small tributary of the Amazon River, surrounded by pristine rainforest and oxbow lakes plenty of wildlife, guaranteeing you a trip rich in numerous wildlife experiences.
Despite the great distance from Iquitos, we try to offer the best food a quality of service for all our travelers.

My husband and I have just come back from the three days, two night stay at Curassow Amazong Lodge and we had a great time. It was our first time to the jungle but it was made very easy by efficient replies to emails by Martin in the office before our trip and all the staff involved at the lodge. Leo was our guide and he was excellent - he grew up in the jungle and knows the area and the wildlife so well. It was high water season so every trip we did was by boat and each exploration had a different aim e.g. one trip was searching for anacondas, one was for pink river dolphins etc. I would like to visit again in the low water season to be able to walk around the jungle more. The staff at the lodge were very friendly and welcoming. It was just us staying at the lodge until the day we left so it was very quiet. There was a lot of food...you will never go hungry...cooked by the lodge chef and it was all very good with variety every day. At the end of the trip three envelopes appeared in our room asking for voluntary tips for different people e.g. the chef, the guide and all other staff. This is fine but we would have liked to have offered tips ourselves rather than envelopes waiting which felt like it was more expected than voluntary. However, we would definitely recommend this lodge to friends and family who want to visit the jungle as we had a brilliant time.
