As a 60 something solo traveler, friends and family had some fears for my safety - I simply couldn’t have been in any more capable hands than those of tour guides Anne and Emma (Mary’s Meanders) and their drivers - Bill and Paul (Tayforth Travels). Our EVERY need was anticipated and attended to, our days were full of fun and fellowship, and our Outlander (and all things Scots) fixation (just callin’ it what it is) was certainly fulfilled!

We have welcomed many solo guests over the years and thank you for sharing your thoughts about the experience. It really is important to us that anyone can join our tours and they don't need to worry about being on their own - we find that the Whatsapp chat group that we set up before the tour starts really helps to form friendships before you have even met each other!
Maybe we will see you here again one day - we hope so.

Best tour EVER! I can’t say enough about Mary’s Meanders! This is the second time I was lucky enough to be with them and well exceeded my expectations. Emma and Anne know Scotland’s wonderful history better than anyone and took us to places nobody else has been with them. Hunterston House was the chance of a lifetime. Also the scenic trip through Glencoe was breathtaking. If you want to be with a tour company that really knows all things Outlander and Scotland they should be your only choice!

If you’re a fan of Outlander and/or a history buff you can’t go wrong with Mary’s Meanders. My husband and I did the 5 Day Outlander Immersion Tour and were thrilled to visit filming locations from the show which were also sites which had historical significance as well. We both learned a great deal about each place we visited. Being a small group tour of no more than ten you get to have a very personal and all inclusive experience. Anne, Emma, Bill and Paul are a lot of fun and very welcoming. As they say, You’ll arrive as strangers and leave as friends. And that we did.

Wonderful trip. Emma and Anne are so knowledgeable about Outlander and Scotland. We got to meet people that had behind the scenes knowledge and pictures from the filming areas. Having a small group like Mary's Meanders likes to have was great, we became such good friends at the end of our 5 day tour. The accommodations (cottages with kitchens and washer and dryer was a plus). We had breakfast that was provided each day, it was wonderful.
Emma and Anne are very professional and you won't be disappointed! The drivers are excellent, Paul and Bill are the best. The whole tour we always felt like we were with family, it was so much fun.

If you are an Outlander fan traveling to Scotland to connect with the sites and scenes from the show and books, you need to book a tour with Mary’s Meanders! Like right now. No need to even finish reading this review. Just do it.

I started my journey with an online zoom consultation with Emma. She talked me through the different tour options, and ultimately I decided on the 5 day Outlander immersive tour. The tour price includes accommodation for the 4 nights of the trip, entry into sites, breakfast each day, and a few special dinners. The immersive tour is limited to just 10 participants. Booking and payment was easy on their website.
A few months before our trip Emma coordinated a What’s App group for our tour group. This gave us an opportunity to get to know one another before the tour and for Emma to share more details and answer questions. This meant we all arrived to the tour feeling like friends already!
On the morning of day one Emma met us at the designated pick up spot in Edinburgh, we loaded up our luggage in the van, and then set off for our Royal Mile walking tour (shout out to Sam from Edinburgh Tours for leading us on this part of the tour with her hilarious dry wit and recounting of many Outlander related filming escapades). From there we spent 5 days touring major spots like Doune and Midhope castles, Blackness, Hopetoun House, Culloden, and smaller spots like Tullibardine Chapel, Dysart, and Tibbermore. (This list is not all inclusive. We toured many more sites). At every stop Emma and her fantastic counter part Anne shared details of the location, had pictures for us to compare what things looked like in the show vs now, and often had an excellent local’s insight into many details of filming.
In addition to taking us to so many Outlander locations they also found time to sneak in some other amazing experiences, like a whisky distillery tour, an evening of Scottish food and entertainment (haggis anyone?), a trip to the Kelpies, Linlithgow Palace, and an afternoon tea.
And, as if that wasn’t enough, Anne and Emma went the extra mile many times during the week to ensure all group members were comfortable and accommodated, in everything from dietary restrictions to mobility challenges.
I could not have asked for a better Outlander tour experience. I highly recommend Mary’s Meanders for any of their tours.

A huge Thank You for your incredibly detailed review and kind words. We try hard to make sure every guest has a trip of a lifetime when they decide to tour with Mary's Meanders and when we receive reviews like this it makes it all worthwhile.
I will be sure to pass to Sam how much you enjoyed her tour - we do love starting the week off with her. There is nothing she doesn't know about the Royal Mile!

My sister and I had an incredible time with Emma, Anne, Paul and Bill during our five day Outlander Immersion Tour. The tour was packed with sites to visit, excellent meals and incredible hospitality. Our accommodations in the holiday cottages were fantastic. We woke up every morning to the fresh smell of Scotland air. We enjoyed great meals and much laughter. I highly recommend this tour if you are an Outlander fan. If you aren't, Mary's Meanders offers other tours. You won't be a number in a large group as they try to keep their tours small so that guests can fully interact with one another and their hosts. Emma and Anne are incredibly knowledgeable about Scotland and with the Outlander tour you get the benefit of information on scenes filmed at locations but also the historical background. With Paul and Bill, I always felt safe on their bus, which was extremely clean. I never had to worry about leaving my belongings on the bus as I toured sites on foot. I highly recommend Mary's Meanders and Tayforth Travel!

I have always loved Scotland and when Outlander came out, I got in high gear. I started looking for tours and came across Mary's Meanders. I started following them and reading other's comments and decided this was the one. I contacted Anne and Emma and right away they responded to all my questions and I booked. I was supposed to go in 2020 but then the COVID hit. They so kindly rebooked me. I was able to do the tour last week. Anne and Emma were the sweetest, kindest ladies, who went out of their way to accommodate everyone's needs. The tours were great - to step into some of the same places that Jamie and Claire were and other Scottish heros once walked just gave me chills. The food, accommodations, sites were truly amazing. I made some new friends as well. Can't forget about Paul and Bill, our drivers - two very kind, sweet gentlemen! You will not be disappointed! They are fantastic.

My sister and I (avid Outlander fans) had originally planned this trip for September 2020 but had to cancel because of the pandemic. With Emma's spot on communication and updates we were finally able to make it in 2022. First she let the small group of 9-10 people get to know her and each other by introducing us on a group chat. When we arrived, we already knew about each other. We were picked up in Edinburgh while our very competent and trustworthy drivers relieved us of our luggage. From the very beginning, it was clear that Emma Chalmers and Anne Daly are extremely knowledgeable about Scotland and the sites, very well organized, graciously accommodating, and so cute and funny that you'll find yourself laughing much of the time!
The cozy yet spacious country cottages that we called home for 4 nights offered a relaxing, homey atmosphere overlooking rolling pastures. We very comfortably share 3 cottages among us and it was like being on vacation with long time friends. It was perfect.
Not only did we get to visit and immerse ourselves into most of the Outlander filming sites, but Anne & Emma took us to some of the places to eat the best authentic foods and experience the best of the local culture. Our drivers, Paul & Bill safely transported us in their clean and comfortable minibuses and provided help whenever needed to their passengers. Both are very charming and gracious gentlemen who also have a great sense of humor!
If I had to complain about anything, it would be that it was over too soon! It was an experience like no other and one that I will never forget. Mary's Meanders made sure of it! Thank you, ladies, for a fantastic experience!

If you are into Outlander fan and want to visit the places it was filmed and see so much of the beautiful country of Scotland, I highly recommend the 5 Day Outlander Immersion Tour. This tour went far beyond my expectations, definitely a 5 star experience. Emma and Anne are the best tour guides ever! They made this trip informative, adventurous and a whole lot of fun. This tour is limited to 10 people, which allowed us to really get to know each other, as well as being able to see and hear eveything.. Emma created a WhatsApp to help us get acquainted prior to the trip. Staying at the cottages every night was great because we were able to unpack and enjoy the comfortable surrounding while hanging out with our new friends after a busy day. Other than the rainy weather, there is not one thing I would have want to change. It was just perfect!

We certainly did see some rain during the tour but everyone was great at not letting it dampen our spirits! Thank you for taking the time to write this review. Both Don & myself agreed that our tour guide Emma was an absolute 5 ⭐️ ambassador for all things Scotland & highly recommend Mary’s Meanders Scottish Tour. We booked the classic Outlander tour & it was a highlight of our time there, experiencing amazing locations with an in-depth knowledge of history, tale’s and sculptors.
Need a reason to visit Scotland 🏴 well you won’t find better than this, we will return.

Does this tour originate in Edinburgh? If not how close to Edinburgh is it?

We stayed in Edinburgh and it was only 20 mins on the train from Edinburgh to the Linlithgow train station where we met the guides. They were waiting for us with a sign as soon as we got off the train we saw them.
